Summary:
Kiora thought she had never heard a lie until she was sixteen. But she was wrong. Her entire existence was based on nothing but. She thought that evil did not exist. Lie. That magic was not real. Lie. And that the land of Meros was all there was. One more lie.
With Aleric telling her that evil is knocking on the door and that she is the only one who can stop them she has a choice to make. Refuse, or start the wildest most painful ride of her life.
She reluctantly dips her toe into her new existence of magic and threads, dragons and shapeshifters, and the person who wants to take control of it all: the evil Dralazar.
However, this journey was never meant to be hers alone. She will be accompanied by a Protector. To her disbelief, and utter irritation they name the hotheaded, stubborn, non -magical, (albeit gorgeous) Prince Emane. They will have to trust each other with their lives, but right now Kiora would settle for a non hostile conversation.
And now it comes down to this, If you had never heard a lie, would you know when you heard one? Is knowing good from evil innate? Kiora finds herself having to decide who lives and who dies on those very questions.

Summary:
Kiora is rapidly learning that evil and lies come in shades of black and white and swirling greys, but nothing could have prepared her for the shock of leaving Meros.
Kiora and her protector Emane step through the pass into a world they never knew existed but were always meant to save, only to find it far worse than they could have ever imagined. Good has been forced into hiding for its own survival, while the rest of the land bows to the Shadow, a force that pushes any remaining thoughts of Dralazar from Kiora’s mind. This land is full of new creatures, each more dangerous than the last. Her visions have taken on a deadly twist, and magic, or what comes of it, was never so real. And then there is Alcander: a Tavean, their guide, and an entirely different kind of trouble.

Hey everyone! Welcome to my tour stop for the Solus Series tour! Today I have reviews for the first two books in the series: Wings of Arian and Wings of Tavea. As always, the tour schedule is linked above with the banner so please check it out!

Wings of Arian
The first book in the series introduces us to Kiora who has been chosen as the Solus, her people's savior from the evil Dralazar. Chosen for her pure heart and her abhorrence for all things evil, she is the light that is destined to battle the darkness. Beside her is Emane, her Protector of royal blood. Wings of Arian has everything a good fantasy novel has. It has prophecies, dragons, magic, a dark evil, and a savior. I was super excited to read this because I've been on a huge fantasy kick lately and this seemed right up my alley. Devri Walls creates a beautiful world with her descriptive writing that brings Kiora's world to life right before your eyes. My one problem with the book was probably Kiora. I liked her as the MC but she felt really naive at times and almost like a little kid. I get that if you master a difficult spell you get really excited and jump around. Anyone would, but she just has this air of innocence throughout the book that after a while it makes her feel really flat and a bit annoying. I understand that she is pure of heart, but to see something evil in front of you and literally collapse because you can't bear to watch it is (honestly) not something a hero who is going to battle the world's greatest evil should be doing. As for the romance, thank the heavens for no insta-love. Emane and Kiora has a really fun relationship where they just bickered back and forth for ages and it was really entertaining. Once they got over their differences, it was really nice to see them get to know each other a bit more before the feelings started rising. And Arturo, can I please have a sarcastic Pegasus because he is amazing. All in all, it was really well written for a debut fantasy novel and it definitely pulls you to continue with the series.

Wings of Tavea
This series just gets more interesting and entertaining as it goes on. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all the characters grow as well as the addition of new characters whom I love. My one little annoyance was sadly Emane and Kiora. They had such a delicate relationship in the first book but in the second they just came as really whiny. I get it, what they're going through is pretty stressful, but again Kiora has waaaay too many nervous breakdowns in like the span of a book. Keep it together girl! Their characters were annoying but I still love them. The addition of new characters was definitely my favorite. I love Drustan and Alcander and with them comes the emergence of a love triangle. Drustan is awesome, he can transform into a dragon at will which in itself is pretty damn cool. Plus when Emane and Kiora are having their breakdowns he keep everything together. Honestly, if he didn't exist, they would have done for a long time ago. Alcander is my new crush. Sorry Emane, he wins. I don't know if I want him with Kiora because I still feel like she is a better match with Emane, but we'll see how things go in the third book. But if she doesn't want him, can I? Overall a really great sequel and a really interesting segue into the third book. :)
