Summary:
The morning after the New Year’s Eve before...
Waking up to a new year with a killer hangover and hazy memories of a seriously hot hook-up the night before leaves Portia in an awkward situation... Did I, or didn’t I? The only way she’s going to find out is by standing up to the guy in question.
With no regrets, Justin is willing to play the gentleman and save Portia her embarrassment. Only then he gets a text saying, come over… and he’s not gonna lie – this is friends with a lot of benefits!
But no matter how good the sex is, there’s one thing Justin’s not down with: being this shallow rich girl’s dirty little secret...

Hey everyone! Sorry it's been a while, my summer SAT classes started this week and I also started my first job. So yeah, it's been a pretty hectic week. Anyway, glad to be back. So remember way back in April, I did a review on I Found You by Jane Lark? Well, today I've got a review of the second book in her series so let's get started! (Oh, don't forget to click the tour banner for other tour stops!)

Portia comes from the high society. Her parents are rich, she's got a posh British accent, and she's beautiful. Justin is from the "bad side" of town. He lives with his mom and three brothers and they're not exactly the "richest" people in the world. They are from two opposite sides of the social ladder. After a New Year's Eve work party, Portia wakes up with a killer hangover and a clouded memory involving a sorta hook up with Justin. Unbelievably mortified, Portia tries to ignore what happened, but Justin wants some answers. They start as friends, but their relationship slowly intensifies.

I hate to start off negative, but I need to get this out of my head. This book was pretty sexual...like I spent a good portion of my time skimming over the parts and desperately searching for something that wasn't involved with a bed and no clothes. When it comes to relationships, this one read as very physical. There's no denying that there was a lot of chemistry between Portia and Justin, I just wished that it didn't take such up such a huge portion of the book.

Moving on, let's get into some positives!! Like I Found You, Jane Lark created amazing characters. Portia has lived a pretty much abandoned childhood, her parents aren't around much. With Justin, she doesn't need to keep herself isolated because he loves her for who she is. With him, she can be herself and it's just so endearing to see her open up, grow confident in herself and in love.

Okay, Jane Lark is some genius when it comes to creating drool-worthy, heart stopping male characters. Justin, like Jason (I Found You), is so kind, such a gentleman, has such a great heart, and so many more amazing qualities. He's amazing and such a sweetheart, Portia is super lucky to have him. Justin's just got this amazing heart and a strong sense of loyalty. He is proud of who he is, who his family is, and if someone can't accept him for who he is, then he doesn't want anything to do with them.

Another amazing idea that was brought into the story was the concept of "interracial" relationships. Jason's African American and Portia's white. You don't get that a lot in books, there are a handful but not a lot. This just brought, I guess racism, into the picture. Portia's parents didn't approve of Justin because of his color and at first Portia was a bit "ashamed" to be dating him. But as the story progresses she grows to disregard his color because that has no ties whatsoever to who he is. It was amazing to just read about their relationship and how color doesn't matter in love because it's not who they are, it's just what they look like.

Overally, I did enjoy the book. Again, it's a bit sexually charged so if you're not so comfortable like me, you might want to consider carefully before picking it up. Other than that, I loved the story, I loved the characters, and I say you give it a try! Emoji

  1. I love character driven stories like these and the male characters really seem to have been well written and likeable. I also like the different aspects of this like social status and interracial relationships. Glad you liked it! :)
